This course presents an interdisciplinary approach to exploring sustainability in architecture. Students will gain an understanding of the fundamental components of sustainability assessments (represented by the first model layer) and the current trends shaping this field.

Through the coursework, participants will have the opportunity to create a conceptual neighborhood model for evaluating performance and urban policies.

During the first week, students will learn how to develop a conceptual model using the architectural elements of buildings, with a specific focus on the performance of materials as the fundamental building block. In the second week, the course delves into methods for optimizing performance. The coursework will cover the considerations and limitations involved in selecting materials and urban elements for the neighborhood, encompassing green, blue, and grey infrastructure as the second model layer.
