This course is the second part of a series of interconnected courses that focus on the current computer applications utilized in the construction industry. The main objective of this course is to explore the practical implementation of building information modeling (BIM) in construction.

The primary aim of this course is to:

Enhance students’ knowledge and skills in applying BIM and supplementary tools to various construction tasks. Equip students with the ability to effectively utilize BIM tools alongside traditional scheduling and cost-estimating tools to support construction management activities. A series of carefully designed hands-on activities will be provided to students, specifically targeting construction-related problems. These activities will enable students not only to grasp the fundamental concepts but also to become proficient in their practical application within the construction domain.

Additional tools required: To participate in this course, students will need to have access to a BIM viewing tool, such as Autodesk’s Navisworks, and scheduling software like Microsoft Project.

Please note that a trial version of Navisworks, which is free for 30 days, can be obtained from Autodesk. Similarly, Microsoft offers a 30-day free trial of Project.

Autodesk also provides a free tool called Autodesk Viewer, which can be used to view BIM models.

Considering that this course spans 5 weeks and the free trials for Navisworks and Project are valid for 30 days, it is advisable to time the trial downloads accordingly.
